Some kinds of appreciation

David (my husband) took Trixie (our dog) for a walk, from which he called me from his cell phone.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

And he replied, "Look outside, it's a beautiful sunset."

I hopped out onto the porch and sure enough, there were amazing stripes of colors in the sky. Kaito (our son, age 12) and Erika (our daughter, age 10) followed me and stepped outside. We had a moment to enjoy the slowly changing colors together in silence. It's nothing special, but at times like this, I really appreciate my husband's sensitivity.

「空の夕焼けがもの凄く綺麗だから見てみて！」

と犬の散歩先から電話をしてくる夫と、

ポーチに出てそれを眺める私に参加する子供たち。

なんか、余りにも平凡で、でも、余りにも特別なひと時。

土曜日に地元のホテルにて、ミニチュアとドールハウスの催しがあって娘と出掛けた。

精巧に出来た小さくて可愛い作品が沢山あって興奮。

繊細で巧妙な手工芸品には眼の肥えた日本人の私でも、思わず唸るような素晴らしい作品を作る、マニアックで希少なプチ芸術家の方達が北米にも存在する現実に感動。

（少なくとも私の身近な日常では稀な存在なので）

前回の日記でも触れた日本人の器用さの要素の一つとして、欧米人に比べ、日本人は小柄で手のサイズも小さく、指が細かったりするのも含まれるかも？などと思ったり。

あとは和食の生活で箸を器用に使うこと、とか？

月曜の晩は、Newcomers' Clubの打ち合わせで、Lori、Julie、Heidi、Suzanne、Tammy、そして私の６人がMeetaの家に集合。

私はたまたま夕食に自家製のピザを作り、ピザ生地があったので、それを四角形に整え、オリーブオイルを塗った後、イタリアンスパイスをふりかけ、４種類の削ったチーズを乗せてオーブンで焼いて細長く切った『チーズスティック』を持って行った。

次回は、スライスしたブラックオリーヴを乗せたらもっと私好みに出来ると思う。

火曜日。　

仏語のクラスで、余りの不甲斐なさに自分自身の中の最も嫌いな部分に嫌気がさして落ち込んだ。

こういう時、何故か責めるのは『自分の中の日本人の部分』なのは不思議。

それは単に私独自の持って生まれた性格としての要素なのかも知れないのに。

いずれにしろ、

言葉は大切な社交の道具なので、それが不自由だと”武器を持たない兵士”みたいな感じ。

仏語の、特に発音が思うようにならない自分が歯痒い。

クラスメイトのLing（中国出身）や、Matthew（地元出身）と感情の共有をすることで励み合いになってるのは救い。

On Saturday, my daughter and I went to the Holiday Inn hotel in Point Clare to see an exhibition of Miniatures and Doll Houses. There were a lot of vendors with amazing quantities of teeny tiny items. It was impressive. Since Easter is around the corner, we bought a few objects: sheep, ducks, and bunnies.

When I make pizza at home, I make the pizza dough in my bread machine. And this time, I experimented with making the dough into "Cheesy Sticks". I simply applied olive oil, sprinkled Italian spices, and then covered it with shredded cheese before put it into the oven to bake. I should add sliced black olives next time!

I'm upset because my French is not coming along so well. I appreciate some friendly support from my "international" classmates.
